Classic Baked Mac and Cheese

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) elbow macaroni
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • ÂĽ cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp mustard powder
  • Salt & black pepper to taste
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs (optional for topping)

Instructions:

  1. Cook the pasta: Boil macaroni in salted water until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. Make the roux: In a large pot, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until golden.
  3. Add milk: Gradually whisk in milk until smooth. Cook until slightly thickened (about 5 minutes).
  4. Add cheeses: Stir in cheddar, mozzarella, and Parmesan until melted. Season with garlic powder, mustard powder, salt, and pepper.
  5. Combine with pasta: Fold in cooked macaroni until fully coated.
  6. Bake (optional): Transfer to a greased baking dish, top with breadcrumbs, and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  7. Serve hot!
